Things We Made in 2023

We featured a few of these projects in our newsletter but there were even more that we didn't have space for! And we thought they were all newsletter worthy AND figured if anyone is trying to decide what to make next, there is definitely inspiration to be found right here! Check out some of the team's favorite makes from 2023. If you are in the shop and want to know more, don't hesitate to ask. We love talking about making things!

Above: Gianna's Sandhill Sling out in the world (specifically on the Brooklyn Bridge). Made with lightweight canvas and perfect for carrying all the things so your hands are free!

Lisa G, sewing instructor and often the person answering your emails, stitched this Ellsworth top in Liberty of London Tana Lawn. Pattern by Merchant and Mills. Finished with Atelier Brunette buttons. To quote Lisa G, "not perfect but done!" Friendly reminder, Process Over Perfection!

A fun, doll-lightful twist on the "Look At My Holes" top by James N Watts! Kayleigh (Inventory Assistant) knit their top in JunkYarn's Boss Sock in their Rollerblade Barbie colorway, with Dirty Water Dyeworks Lillian in Apricot for the contrasting cuffs, collar, and hem. Finished (and blocked!) for a summertime brunch & Barbie Movie friend-date with their bestie.

Vee (Virginia), gather here's owner, made some shirts and matching sets but the thing she is the most proud of is this used chair she bought from local artist, James Weinberg, and made new slip covers for in a stashed Jen Hewett lightweight canvas. She also papered this wall in Jen Hewett wallpaper!

Lynnette, closing manager and sometimes crochet/knitting instructor, created three face masks. Left to right: #1 Pussy Hat response to repeal of Roe v. Wade (HH Fibres DK), #2 Omicron pandemic plague mask (Manos del Uruguay Feliz sport/dk), and #3 Peace in Ukraine balaclava (JMF Findley held double).

You may recognize Molly, gh's store manager, though she is masked when working. This is one of the four Gilbert tops (pattern by Helen’s Closet) that Molly made in 2023. Made with Merchant and Mills linen. Molly's centerfront plaid matching is excellent!

Meghan, our Certified Bernina Machine Technician, whipped up this Southport Dress by True Bias using the Essex Yarn Dyed Solids from Robert Kaufman in Malibu. We actually watched Meghan speed sew the hem before heading out for a weekend on the Cape. Meghan's dad took this great photo of her lounging in her favorite make from 2023.

This Fangs Out Cross Stitch designed by Lisa Congdon, kit by budgiegoods was stitched by gh's inventory manager, Kendra. This project took a "long time" (to quote Kendra) for so many reasons (moving, other urgent projects, etc.) but Kendra is ecstatic that it's done!

Jooé recently joined the gather here team and is training to be a sewing and knitting instructor. You may have seen Jooé sporting a PetiteKnit Sophie scarf in one of the workshops she shadowed in January. She has knit many of the larger size (which wraps around the neck twice) as gifts for friends. You can make the Sophie scarf in Jooé's April 13, 2024 workshop!
